ようす【様子】
❶〔ありさま，状態〕a state
彼の家庭の様子は今どんな具合ですか
What is the state of affairs in his family now?／How is his family doing now?
この様子では彼は二，三日持ちそうだ
Judging from his present condition, I think he will linger on for two or three days.
彼の様子ではとても旅行は無理だ
He is in no condition to travel.
もう少し様子を見よう
Let's wait a little longer and see (what happens).
男はあたりの様子をうかがってから家の中に入った
The man looked around (furtively) and then entered the house.
❷〔外観〕a look；〔態度〕a manner
みすぼらしい様子の男
a seedy-looking man
彼は終始浮かぬ様子だった
He looked sad [depressed] from beginning to end.

雪になりそうな様子だ
It looks like snow.
ベッドに人が寝た様子はなかった
No one seemed to have slept in the bed.／There was no trace of anyone having slept in the bed.
❹〔特別な事情〕
彼女は私の顔を様子ありげに見た
She looked at me 「with eyes full of meaning [as if she knew something].
