❶〔見つからないようにする〕hide; conceal（▼少し形式張った語）
大事な物を屋根裏部屋に隠した
He hid the valuable things in the attic.
素早くドアの陰に［木立の中に］身を隠した
He quickly hid himself 「behind the door [among the trees].
ほとぼりが冷めるまで身を隠しているつもりだ
He intends to hide [lie low/《口》 keep a low profile] until the matter blows over.
悲しみを隠そうとして無理に笑った
She tried to conceal her grief behind a forced smile.
