しかたがない【仕方がない】

❶〔どうにもならない〕

社長の命令だから仕方がない
It's an order from the president, so there's nothing you can do about it.

文句を言ったって今さら仕方がない
「It's no use [There is no use (in)] complaining now.

それより外に仕方がなかったのだ
There was no help for it.／We had no choice [alternative].

彼は仕方なく出ていった
He was compelled [forced/obliged] to leave.／He left against his will.

それは仕方のないことだ
It cannot be helped [avoided].

運命なんだから仕方ないさ
We have to accept our fate.／We must resign ourselves to fate.

その飛行機に乗るよりほか仕方なかった
We had no choice but to take the plane.

❷〔手の付けようもなく駄目な〕

全くあの男は仕方のないうそつきだ
He is simply 「a hopeless [an incorrigible] liar.

❸〔たまらない〕

（酒が）飲みたくて仕方がない
I'm dying for a drink.

おかしくて仕方がなかった
I couldn't help laughing.

腹が立って仕方がなかった
I couldn't control my anger.
