てんとう【転倒・^×顛倒】

❶〔ひっくり返ること〕

石につまずいて転倒した
I stumbled over [on] a rock and fell.

車が滑って転倒した
The car skidded and 「turned over [overturned].

❷〔うろたえること〕

気が転倒していたのでその人の名前を聞くのを忘れてしまった
I had lost 「my head [my presence of mind] and forgot to ask the man's name.／I was so upset that it did not occur to me to ask the man's name.

❸〔逆になること〕

順序が転倒している
They're in reverse order.

それは本末転倒だ
That is 「putting the cart before the horse [mistaking the means for the end].

主客転倒して客が料理を作ってくれた
In a reversal of roles, our guest cooked dinner for us.
