❶〔頸部〕a neck
細い［太い］首
a 「delicate neck [bullneck]
彼は行列を見ようと首を伸ばした
He stretched [craned] his neck to see the procession.
彼は首をくくった
He hanged himself.（▼この意味のhangは規則変化）
彼は彼女の首をしめて殺した
He strangled her (to death).

He has not been dismissed [fired] yet.

The principal 「lost his job [was fired] because of the incident.
