❶〔応対する，扱う〕treat; handle

客を丁重にあしらった
They treated [received/entertained] the guest politely.

私をじゃけんにあしらった
He ill-treated me.／He treated me badly [unkindly].

その問題はいい加減にあしらわれた
The question was handled perfunctorily.

彼は私の忠告を鼻であしらった
He turned up his nose at my advice.

市の役人は彼を適当にあしらって追い払った
The city officials gave him a polite brush-off.

❷〔取り合わせる〕

板前は刺身に大根のつまをあしらった
The cook garnished the sashimi with thread-like strips of radish.

彼女は生け花の松の根元に巧みに菊をあしらった
She skillfully placed [arranged] some chrysanthemums at the foot of the sprigs of pine in her flower arrangement.
