❶〔力を入れて〕with all one's might

彼はロープをぐっと引っ張った
He yanked [jerked] vigorously on the rope.／He gave the rope a vigorous jerk [yank].

彼はドアをぐっと引いた
He gave the door a tug.／He tugged at the door.

腹にぐっと力を入れる
Put all your strength into your abdominal muscles.

私は涙［怒り］をぐっと抑えた
I gulped back my tears [anger].

❷〔一気に〕at a breath

私はコップの水をぐっと飲み干した
I emptied the glass of water 「at one gulp [at a draft].

❸〔一段と〕 ⇒ぐんと

あなたは赤を着るとぐっと引き立つ
You look much [even] better in red.

交通事故が今年はぐっと減りました
Traffic accidents have decreased remarkably this year.

❹〔感動・強い衝撃を受ける様子〕

The words 「stuck in his throat [froze on his lips].
