a haiku (poem); a Japanese poem consisting of seventeen syllables
説明
Haiku is a form of waka, or Japanese classical poetry. A haiku consists of 17 syllables in 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables, respectively. A traditional haiku should contain a kigo, or word or phrase that symbolizes or implies the season. Some of Japan's greatest haiku poets wrote in the Edo era: among the best known are Basho Matsuo, Buson Yosa, and Issa Kobayashi. In the Meiji period, Shiki Masaoka, a haiku and tanka poet, coined the term“haiku”and revitalized the fixed format of this short verse type.（意訳：和歌の一種で，五七五の３句17字からなる．季語と呼ばれる季節感を表す言葉を折り込んで作るのが約束事である．江戸時代の著名な俳人として，松尾芭蕉，与謝蕪村，小林一茶などがいるが，明治時代の俳人で歌人でもある正岡子規によって俳句という呼称が確立し，定型の短詩として一般化した）
