きりはなす【切り離す】

❶〔切って離す〕cut; cut off

棒を半分に切り離す
cut a stick in half

彼女は長い生地から１メートル切り離した
She cut off a one-meter piece from the roll of cloth.

❷〔分離する〕separate, sever；〔取りはずす〕detach

外部燃料タンクはスペースシャトルからうまく切り離された
The outer fuel tank was successfully detached from the space shuttle.

納屋は母屋からは切り離されている
The barn is detached [separated] from the main house.

二つの事柄を切り離して考えた
They considered the two matters separately.

個人の利害とは切り離してこの問題を扱おう
Let's consider this problem apart from personal interests.

島々は本土とは切り離して治められていた
The islands were governed independently of the mainland.

二人は切り離せぬ仲だ
The two are inseparable (friends).
