❶〔性質や種類の共通〕the same ((as))；〔寸分違わずそっくりの〕identical ((to))

私のと同じような帽子をかぶっている
His hat is the same as mine.

これとそっくり同じ傘を持っている
I have an umbrella that is identical to this one.

彼は私と同じ背丈だ
He is as tall as I am.

兄弟３人とも同じような顔をしている
All three brothers look alike.

どっちを取ろうと同じだ
It makes no difference which we choose.

幸せでありたいと願うのはだれでも同じだ
The desire to be happy is common to all of us.

❷〔同一である〕the same

彼女と僕は同じ線で通勤している
We both commute on the same line.

被害者は行方不明の女性と同じ人物であることがわかった
It was proved that the victim was the woman who had been missing.

❸〔等しい〕

こんな契約書はほごも同じだ
This contract is 「as good as [no better than] trash.

そんな計画は不可能も同じだ
Such a scheme is virtually impossible.

彼女が何も言ってこないのは断ったのと同じことだ
Her silence means [is equivalent to] refusal.

❹〔「同じ…なら」の形で，どうせ…なら〕

同じ出掛けるなら早いほうがいい
If we have to go, we'd better leave early.

同じ買うなら安いほうがいい
If I must buy one, I'll pick [choose] whichever's cheapest.
