❶〔たいがい〕generally, mostly；〔通常〕usually

私はたいてい７時に起きます
I generally [usually] get up at seven in the morning.

彼らはたいてい家族同伴でピクニックに出掛けます
In most cases they go on outings with their families.

うちの学校の生徒はたいていこの町に住んでいる
Most of our students live in this town.

ここにいるたいていの人とは顔見知りだ
I know almost all the people here.

❷〔たぶん〕probably

２時にそこへ行けばたいてい彼に会えるでしょう
If you go there at two o'clock, you will probably be able to see him.

❸〔適度〕

もう仕事はたいていにして休みなさい
「Leave the work at that [Put aside your work], and take a rest.

いたずらもたいていにしなさい
No more of your pranks [mischief].／That's enough of your mischief!

❹〔打ち消しの語を伴って，普通〕

たいていのことじゃ首を縦に振るまい
It won't be easy to win his approval.／It will take some doing to win his consent.

毎日何時間もかけて通勤するのはたいていのことではない
It is no easy matter to spend hours commuting to and from work every day.

たいていのことでは慌てない
He does not get upset easily.
