❶〔仕事・地位に身を置く〕

彼はやっと職に就いた
He finally got a job.

彼は会長の地位に就いた
He took office as president.／He took [《文》 assumed] the office of president.

彼女は教職に就くつもりだ
She plans to become a teacher.

彼はゴルフ日本一の座に就いた
He has become Japan's champion golfer.

❷〔ある動作を始める〕

眠りに就く
go [get] to sleep

彼らは帰路に就いた
They started on their way home.

彼は欧州旅行の途に就いた
He set out on a trip to Europe.

❸〔師事する〕

彼女は彼に就いてピアノを習った
She took piano lessons from him.

彼は加藤教授に就いてフランス文学を研究中だ
He is studying French literature under [with] Professor Kato.

❹〔従う〕

人は易きに就く
We tend to take [choose] the easiest course.
