❶〔意志〕one's will；〔決意〕one's resolution

志の固い男
a man of 「strong will [resolution]

❷〔目的〕an aim, (a) purpose；〔意図〕one's intention(s)

彼は志を立てて家を出た
He decided on his path in life and left home.

20歳の時に医者になろうと志を立てた
At twenty he determined [resolved] to become a doctor.

ついに志を遂げた
He attained [accomplished] his aim [purpose] at last.／He finally realized his aspiration [ambition/goal].

事は志と違ってしまった
Things turned out contrary to my hopes [intentions].

❸〔望み〕(a) wish

父の志に従って家業を継いだ
Following my father's wishes, I took over the family business.

❹〔好意〕kindness

お志はありがたいのですが…
I appreciate your kindness very much, but....

助けてくれるという彼女の志を無にしてはいけない
You should accept her kind offer to help you.

❺〔気持ちを表した贈り物〕

これはほんの［感謝の］志です
This is only 「a small present [a small token of my gratitude].

彼はテーブルにいくらかの志を置いた
He left some money on the table as a tip.
