❶〔生まれつきの気質〕one's nature; one's disposition ⇒きしょう（気性）

性質がよい［悪い］
be good-natured [ill-natured]

明るい性質の娘
a girl with a cheerful disposition

もともと彼は性質が傲慢(ごうまん)だ［おとなしい］
He is arrogant [docile] by nature.

娘は父に似て芸術家肌の性質だ
The daughter takes after her father in having an artistic temperament.

❷〔物の本来の特性〕a property; a nature

ある種の野草は病気を治す性質がある
Some herbs have healing properties.

問題の性質上注意深い扱いが必要だ
Because of its nature, this problem requires careful handling.
