❶〔自分に近いほう〕

郵便局の手前を左へ曲がるのです
You turn left just before you come to the post office.

京都より一つ手前の駅で降りた
I got off the train one station before Kyoto.

私の３歩手前で立ち止まった
He stopped three steps (away) from me.

川の手前に2,3軒家がある
There are a couple of houses on this side of the river.
