❶〔穴をあける〕dig

地面に深い穴を掘った
He dug a deep hole in the ground.

井戸［池］を掘る
dig a well [pond]

山を掘ってトンネルを作っている
They are digging [boring] a tunnel through the mountain.

❷〔取り出す〕dig (up)

芋を掘っていた
He was digging (up) potatoes.

この山の石炭はもう掘り尽くされた
This coal mine has been exhausted.／There's no more coal in this mine.
