そろえる【^×揃える】

❶〔一か所に集める〕

若い者を10人そろえる必要がある
We need ten young people.

あそこはマナーのよい店員をそろえている
All the clerks there are very polite.

あの店は一流の品物をそろえている
That store carries first-class goods.

❷〔全部を備える〕

良い包丁をそろえる
get [have] a good set of knives

バッハのCDをそろえたい
I'd like to have a complete collection of CDs of Bach's music.

❸〔きちんと並べる〕

靴はそろえて下駄(げた)箱に入れなさい
Place the shoes neatly side by side in the shoe cupboard.

道具はすぐ使えるようにそろえておきなさい
Arrange [Put] the tools in order so they will be ready for use.

❹〔同じ状態にする〕

木の高さをそろえる
make the trees 「the same [a uniform] height

大きさをそろえて人参を切りなさい
Cut a carrot into pieces of uniform [the same] size.

彼らは口をそろえて彼を知らない人だと言った
They all said that he was a stranger.
