❶〔新しくなる〕

年が改まった
The new year has arrived [come round].

年号が改まり平成と称した
This was the beginning of a new era, which was called the Heisei period.

古い規則は新しい規則に改まった
The old regulations were replaced by [with] new ones.

❷〔よくなる〕be improved

古い制度がだいぶ改まった
The old system was improved considerably.

彼の性質が急に改まった
He reformed suddenly.

❸〔格式張る〕be formal; be ceremonious; be stiff

改まって
in a formal manner

改まった言葉を使う
use [speak in] formal [stiff] language

そんなに改まらなくともよい
You don't have to be so formal about it.

彼女は改まった事が好きだ
She likes to be ceremonious about everything.
