❶〔数量が多いこと〕たくさんの 〔数〕many ((things, persons))，《文》 many a ((thing, person)) （▼単数扱い），a good [great] many, a large number of ((things, persons)) （▼複数扱い），《口》 lots of ((things, persons))；〔量〕much, plenty of, a good [great] deal of, a large quantity of，《口》 lots of（▼口語では manyや（特に）muchは肯定文にはあまり用いず，否定文，疑問文，条件文などに用いる．肯定文では代わりに〔量・数〕a lot of, lots of, plenty of;〔量〕a great deal of;〔数〕a large number ofを用いる.ただし肯定文でも主語を修飾する場合や，as, so, tooなどに続く場合にはmuch, manyが用いられる）
友達はたくさんいますか
Do you have many [a lot of] friends?
できるだけたくさんの本を読みたい
I want to read as many books as I can.
この山には野猿がたくさんいる
