❶〔流行する〕be in fashion, be the vogue；〔人気がある〕be popular

革のコートがはやってきた［はやらなくなった］
Leather coats 「have come into [have gone out of] fashion [vogue].

大学生のころラッパズボンと底上げの靴がはやっていた
Bell bottoms and platform shoes were in fashion when I was in college.

この種の音楽が今はやっている
This type of music is popular now.

そのような意見が若者の間にはやっている
That sort of opinion is prevalent among young people.

❷〔病気が広まる〕

赤痢がはやってきた
Dysentery has broken out.

去年は全国で流感がはやった
Last year influenza was prevalent all over the country.

疫病がはやっている
An epidemic is raging.（▼猛威をふるって）

❸〔繁盛する〕

あの医者ははやっている
That doctor has a large [busy] practice.

あの店ははやっている
That store 「has a lot of customers [is doing a good business].
