He hasn't been heard from [of] since he left the country.（▼hear fromは直接たよりがあること，hear ofは間接的に聞くこと）

He is well-informed [knowledgeable/in the know] about political affairs.

彼は金融界の消息をいつも伝えてくれる
He keeps me posted on developments in the financial world.

消息筋

well-informed [well-placed] sources
