❶〔払いが遅れる〕be overdue; fall into arrears

家賃が２か月滞っていた
He was two months behind [《文》 in arrears] with the rent.

勘定が滞っている
His bill is overdue.

❷〔物事が順調に進まない〕

ラッシュ時は交通が滞る
Traffic piles up at rush hour.／Traffic jams develop during rush hour.

１週間病床にあったので仕事が滞っている
As I have been ill in bed for the last week, 「I am behind with my work [a lot of work has piled up].

台風の影響で物資の流通が滞っている
The distribution of goods is being delayed by the typhoon.
