鳥をねらって撃った
He aimed [took aim with] his gun at the bird and fired.

❷〔目を付けてうかがう〕

ライオンは１頭のしま馬をねらった
The lion had its eye on a zebra.

❶〔機会をうかがう〕watch for

こちらの隙をねらっている
They are 「watching for a chance to take advantage of us [waiting to catch us off guard].

❷〔求める〕seek; be after

彼の命をねらっている者がいる
Someone is seeking [after] his life.

遺産をねらって結婚した
He married her for money.

❸〔目標とする〕

委員長の座をねらっている
He is aiming at the chairmanship.

この商品がねらっているのは若い女性だ
These articles are targeted [aimed] at young women.

次は優勝をねらいますよ
We will aim for the championship next time.

宣伝効果をねらっているのだ
What they are after [trying to get] is publicity.
