❶〔甘ったれる〕behave like a baby [spoiled child]; demand attention

子供たちは継母に甘えることをしなかった
The children never made up to their stepmother.

彼女は甘えた話し方をする
She has a coquettish way of speaking.

子供が甘えるように母親にすり寄った
The child nestled up to his mother, seeking her attention.

祖母に甘えて洋服を買ってもらった
She wheedled her grandmother into buying her some new clothes.

❷〔好意を利用する〕

人の好意に甘える
depend on others' kindness
