❶〔故障〕a malfunction；〔狂い〕a disorder；〔変化〕a change

何も異状はない
There's nothing wrong.

異状なし！
Everything is 「all right [O.K./in perfect order].

エンジンに何か異状がある
Something is wrong [the matter] with the engine.

機械の音が変わったので異状に気付いた
A change in the sound it made told us that the machine was malfunctioning.

機械に異状があって動かない
The machine is out of order.

❷〔身体の変調〕

彼はのどの異状を訴えている
He is complaining that something is wrong with his throat.

彼は身体に異状がある
He isn't well.／《文》 He is indisposed.

彼の容体に異状は見られない
I don't see any change (for the worse) in his condition.

彼は精神に異状をきたした
He became mentally deranged.
