❶〔引き裂く〕tear; rip（▼tearが一般的な語，ripは裂き易い方向，縫目などにそって勢いよく引き裂く）
スカートをくぎに引っ掛けて破いてしまった
I tore my skirt on a nail.
彼は手紙を二つに破いた
He tore [ripped] the letter in half.
だれかがこの本の一部を破り取った
Someone has torn some of the pages out of this book.
