❶〔心に用意のあること〕preparedness, readiness
覚悟する prepare oneself, be ready ((for))；〔気持ちを引きしめる〕steel [brace] oneself ((for, against))
それは覚悟の上だ
I am prepared for that.／I expect(ed) as much.
覚悟はよいか
Are you ready [prepared] (for it)?
断られるのを覚悟で頼んでみるつもりだ
I intend to ask him anyway, though I don't expect he will consent to it.
君が理不尽なことをやめないのならこっちにも覚悟がある
If you don't stop doing such unreasonable things, I know what I must do.
❷〔決心〕resolution
覚悟する make up one's mind ((to do))
最後までやり抜く覚悟だ
I am determined [resolved] to carry it through.
❸〔あきらめ〕resignation
この場合どうもしようがないと覚悟をきめた
I have resigned myself to the situation.
