ゆるす【許す】
❶〔罪などを免じる〕forgive; pardon; excuse [ikskjúːz]（▼３語とも大体同じだが，forgiveは個人的な感情の上で心からその恨みを無くすこと．宗教的な意味合いを含むこともある．pardonは立場が上の者が寛容に法・道徳上の罪を許すこと．excuseは特に小さな過失を許すときに用いる）
彼の罪は許された
His sins were forgiven.／His crime was pardoned.
彼は彼女の過失を許した
He forgave (her for) her mistake.
ご無礼をお許しください
Pardon me for my rudeness.／I'm sorry. I was very rude.
彼は借金の返済を許してもらえた
His debts were forgiven [《文》 remitted].
❷〔許可する〕allow ((a person to do))；permit ((a person to do; a person's doing))
学校の構内では喫煙は許されていない
Smoking is 「not allowed [prohibited] on the school grounds.
帰宅を許された
He was allowed to return home.
母は私が外泊するのを許してくれなかった
My mother wouldn't permit 「me to stay out [my staying out] for the night.
両親はついに娘の結婚を許した
The parents finally consented to their daughter's marriage.
法律の許す範囲で
as far as the law permits／within the law
許可なしに入室は許されない
No one is 「admitted to [allowed to enter] the room without permission.
