こす【越す】

❶〔横切る〕cross；〔通り過ぎる〕pass

川を越す
cross a river

日が中天を越した
The sun has passed the midpoint in the sky.

山を一つ越せば行軍は終わりだ
The march will end when we get over [across] the mountain.

❷〔時を過ごす〕pass; spend

箱根で夏を越した
I spent [passed] the summer in Hakone.

この冬を越せば病人は大丈夫だ
The patient will survive if he can get through this winter.

❸〔絶頂を過ぎる〕

あらしも峠を越したらしい
The worst of the storm seems to be over.

交渉は峠を越した
The negotiations have passed the critical point.

ここまで来たんだから仕事の峠は越した
We've gotten this far with the work, so we're 「through with the worst of it [《口》 over the hump].

❹〔追い抜く〕

先(せん)を越す
forestall a person

❺〔引っ越す〕move ⇒ひっこす（引っ越す）

一家は大阪に越した
The family moved to Osaka.

新しく隣に越してきた人
a new neighbor

❻〔来る，行く〕

ぜひまたお越しください
Do come again.
