❶〔雨が〕rain；〔雪が〕snow；〔あられが〕hail

雨がひどく降っている
It's raining heavily.／It's pouring.

雪がひどく降っている
It's snowing thick and fast.

雨［雪］が降り出した
It began to rain [snow].／It started raining [snowing].

雨が降りそうだ
It looks like rain.

今にも降りそうだった
It was threatening to rain at any moment.

降ったり止んだりしている
It has been raining off and on.

天気予報は「降ったり止んだり」だ
The weather forecast calls for intermittent rain [rainfall].

出勤途中で降られた
I was 「caught in the rain [rained on] on my way to work.

雨の降る中を歩いて行った
We walked in the rain.

降っても照っても出掛ける

❷〔落ちてくる〕fall; come down
