あつめる【集める】

❶〔集合させる〕gather; get ((people, things)) together

子供たちを集めて野球をしよう
Let's 「gather the children [get the children together] and play baseball.

❷〔集金する，収集する〕collect

彼は寄付［資金］を集めるのに忙しい
He is busy 「collecting contributions [raising funds].

彼はただやたらと本を集めている
He just accumulates books indiscriminately.

起訴に十分な証拠を集めた
We have gathered enough evidence to prosecute him.

❸〔集中する，引きつける〕attract; draw

そのオーケストラはどこでも多くの聴衆を集めた
The orchestra attracted [drew] large audiences everywhere.

彼は同僚たちの人望を集めている
He is 「admired by all [popular among] his colleagues.

その孤児は近所の人々の同情を集めた
The orphan attracted the neighbors' sympathy.
