つたわる【伝わる】

❶〔伝導・伝達される〕be conveyed [transmitted] ((to))；travel

電気は銅線を伝わる
Electricity 「travels through [is carried by] copper wire.

この金網には電気が伝わっている
The wire mesh is charged with electricity.

列車の音はここ［この高さ］までは伝わって来ない
The noise of the trains does not reach [come up] this far.

彼の緊張が彼女にも伝わったようだ
His tension seems to have affected her, too.

彼の悲しみがひしひしと伝わって来る
I can really feel his grief.

❷〔知れ渡る〕spread ((to))

大地震があるといううわさが口から口へと伝わった
The rumor that there would be a strong earthquake spread by word of mouth.

彼が離婚するといううわさが伝わった
The rumor got abroad [around] that he was getting a divorce.

❸〔沿って行く〕go along ⇒つたう（伝う）

涙が彼女のほおを伝わって流れた
Tears streamed down her cheeks.

❹〔伝承される〕come down ((from))；be handed down ((to posterity))

この掛け軸は祖父の代から伝わった家宝だ
This scroll is a family treasure handed down from our grandfather's time.

❺〔伝来する〕be introduced ((into))

漢字は中国から日本に伝わった
Chinese characters were introduced [brought] into Japan from China.
