きらう【嫌う】
❶〔好まない〕dislike；〔憎悪する〕hate；〔ひどく嫌う〕detest, loathe ⇒きらい（嫌い）
その子は牛乳を嫌って飲もうとしなかった
The child had a dislike for milk and would not drink it.
彼はみんなに嫌われていた
He was disliked [hated] by everybody.
私は上司に嫌われている
My boss doesn't like me.
それ以来親類から嫌われている
Since then all my relatives have shunned me.
この種の計器類は湿気を嫌う
Instruments of this kind 「are easily affected by [have to be kept away from] moisture.
❷〔避ける〕
そのような表現は品がないと一般に嫌われている
People generally avoid using such expressions because they sound indecent.
❸〔「嫌わず」の形で，差別せず〕
彼は相手嫌わずけんかをふっかける
He will pick a quarrel with anyone.
ところを嫌わずわめきちらす
He rants and raves without considering where he is.
