池にはまる
fall into a pond

車が泥にはまって動かなかった
The car got stuck [caught] in the mud.

彼はその役によくはまっている
He is the right [very] man for the post.／He fits the post to a T.

それでは条件にはまらない
That won't satisfy [fulfill] the conditions.

❷〔類型的である〕 ⇒かた（型）

型にはまる［はまらない］
fit [not fit] a pattern

❸〔だまされる〕

彼は敵の計略にはまった
He 「played into the hands of [fell into the snare laid by] the enemy.
