❶〔隠す〕conceal; hide oneself

戸の陰に身を潜めた
He hid (himself) behind the door.

❷〔声が聞こえないようにする〕

彼の姿を見て彼女は声を潜めた
At the sight of him, she dropped [lowered] her voice.
