❶〔物が結びつく〕

舟は綱でつながっている
The boats are tied together with a rope.

この村は鉄道で町につながっている
This village is linked to the town by a railway.

この道は100メートル先で高速道路とつながっている
This road 「connects with [is connected to] the expressway 100 meters ahead.

自動車がつながって走り過ぎた
A line [string] of cars sped by.

❷〔関係する〕

もう一人事件につながる人がいる
There is one more person who is 「connected with [involved in] the case.

この仕事は金もうけにつながらない
This job doesn't pay.

候補者の清潔なイメージが当選につながった
The candidate's clean image led to his success in the election.

❸〔血筋が同じである〕

彼女は私と血がつながっている
She is related to me by blood.

❹〔電話が〕

ロンドンにつながりました
You are connected with London.／London is on the line.

電話がなかなかつながらない
I'm having a hard time 「getting through on the phone [placing my call].
