❶〔物を据える〕put; place
どこかこれを置くよい場所はないか
Is there a place to put this?
本を元の棚に置いておきなさい
Put the book back on the shelf where 「you found it [it belongs].
花瓶をテーブルのまん中に置いた
I placed the vase in the center of the table.
❷〔置いておく〕keep
車を置いておく場所がない
There is no place to keep my car.
ここに置いといて
Leave it here, please.
❸〔残しておく〕leave
家族を東京に置いて仙台に来ている
He has left his family behind in Tokyo, and is living in Sendai.
❹〔仕入れて売る〕
男物は置いておりません
We do not carry men's clothing.
あの店は輸入品をたくさん置いている
They have many kinds of imported goods at that store.
❺〔設置する〕
丸の内に事務所を置くことにしました
We are going to open an office in Marunouchi.
世界各地に支店を置いている
We have branch offices all over the world.
