❶〔我慢する〕bear, stand, put up with；〔忍耐する〕endure ⇒がまん（我慢）
恥を忍ぶ
bear up under one's shame

人里離れた山中で暮らすには多くのことを忍ばなくてはならない

He shuns [keeps out of] the public eye.

恋人の所へ毎晩忍んで行った
He 「paid a secret visit to [sneaked in to see] his girlfriend every evening.
