1 〈人が〉（…に）興味をもった，好奇心をかき立てられた≪in≫，（…することに）関心のある≪in doing，to do≫（⇔uninterested）．

interested students
関心のある学生

I am very interested in detective stories.
探偵小説にとても興味がある

I am not interested in learning how to drive.
車の運転を習いたいとは思わない

I am interested to hear your opinion.
君の意見を聞きたいものだ

[語法]

(1) 「情報を獲得（learn，know，find out など）したい」という願望を表すには to do, in doing の両方が用いられる．具体的な行為（study，work など）に関する願望を表すには in doing を用いる

I'm interested in studying in the U.S.
米国で勉強してみたい．

(2) 修飾語には be very interested in のように通例 very，very much を用いる．much を用いるのは堅い表現

2 〈人々が〉（…に）（利害）関係のある，関与している≪in≫．

the interested parties
《法律》（裁判などの）当事者たち

2a 〈動機などが〉自分の利害に基づく，私利私欲による，私心のある（⇔disinterested）．
