学◆Centrales 英◆centric diatoms

珪藻植物門の一綱。盤状・円筒状の形態をなすことが多い。単体と群体がある。海水・汽水・淡水域に生息する。海洋プランクトンの大部分を占め堆積物の編年・対比に有効。古環境の復元にも用いられる。Round et al.（1990）によるとThalassiosirophycidae・Coscinodiscophycidae・Biddulphiophycidae・Lithodesmiophycidae・Corethrophycidae・Cymatosirophycidae・Rhizosoleniophycidae・Chaetocerotophycidaeに区分されている。
